The Promises of God:

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).

Now look at this! It is God who works in us to make us pleasing in His sight! It is not left up to us! I hope that makes you laugh out loud like a little carefree child! We get so worked up about how to fix ourselves up and do all the "right" stuff as if we could actually do that! - meanwhile God just has to wait until we realize this truth - HE IS THE only One who can change us anyway  - as long as we think we can do it - we hinder HIM from going ahead and doing HIS work - So today - STOP IT! Just come to HIM and let HIM do HIS work in and through you! :-) Better than alka seltzer - oh what a relief it is! :-)

The Promises of God:

"We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).

We are created in Christ Jesus unto good works! HE has a plan - we're not just meandering about aimlessly waiting for Heaven! God has ordained for us to meet certain people and share HIS love with them. There is a purpose! It is one of life's great questions - "is there meaning to my life"? - Jesus said - not even a cup of cold water given in His name would go unnoticed or unrewarded! whew! Talk about purpose! Let's WALK in those good works today!

The Promises of God:

"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." (1John 5:14-15).

It's not my word - it's HIS! "Anything according to His will" - some people stop after the word "anything" :-) As we line ourselves up with HIS HEART of love it is not so hard to know "what is according to HIS will" -- HE is not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance! The call to His disciples was "follow Me and I will make you fishers of men" - the "great commission" - go ye into all the world .... preach ... teach ... baptize!" Jesus told His disciples to pray the Lord of the harvest for laborers to gather the harvest [of souls] Jesus was dismayed that the laborers were few! - GOD is willing - that not ONE should perish! The news media have it backwards - their question is always "HOW could a loving God allow .......???" HE IS NOT WILLING that ONE should perish!!!! We need to KNOW whom we have believed and know HIS heart!

Isn't it the worst - when your own family or some close friend misses what your heart is on something? When they believe something about us that they should have KNOWN from knowing us could not be true! ?? You see how GOD must feel when we do that to HIM! AND He's given ALL - poured out His heart for us all to see plainly on Calvary! May God help us today to get more in line with HIS GREAT HEART OF LOVE!

The Promises of God:

"And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight" (1John 3:22).

Notice the condition mentioned here: "because we keep His commandments" as well as "do those things that are pleasing in His sight"

We would rather hear just go ahead and live however you want to and all the promises are yours no matter what. However, that is not what this verse of scripture says - In order to receive the promises we need to OBEY His commands and His commands are not burdensome - because Jesus told us - His yoke is easy and His burden is light - In order to keep the commandments we need to know what they are - Next time you read through the gospels - highlight HIS commands - then see how you measure up.

The Promises of God:

"And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full" (John 16:23, 24).

FULL JOY! Notice where it comes from - asking and receiving! Not just a little joy or some joy but FULL! Keep on asking so your JOY may be full!

The Promises of God:

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matthew 7:7, 8, 11).

Notice it does not say anything about "whining" or "wishing" or "hoping" - It says a lot about - direct asking and receiving - knocking and opening - seeking and finding. When our praying sounds like ranting and raving or whining and nagging - remember - we have ACCESS with BOLDNESS to the throne room of heaven! If your adult child came crawling to you begging for a dollar - you would be insulted and maybe even mad - certainly grieved that they felt that was an appropriate way to ask you for a dollar - are you getting the picture?????? :-) Come then with BOLDNESS and then expectantly await the answers!

Another place it says "we have not because we do not ask" - Sometimes we think God should just read our mind and zap out whatever it is we want - Here we are promised direct giving in response to our asking - open doors in response to our knocking - finding in direct response to our seeking. Jesus used this promise in connection with the Holy Spirit - so if you feel like you've got the short end of the stick today - ASK - SEEK - KNOCK - HE WILL ANSWER!

The Promises of God:

"Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee" (Job 22:27).

"But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him" (Psalm 4:3).

"This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles" (Psalm 34:6, 15, 17).

"Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me" (Psalm 50:15).

Look at these promises of God to hear our prayers! Have you ever tried to get your congressman to hear your request - or the President of the United Sates? It's not happening! :-) You may get a form letter in response to your efforts - but NO FORM letters from GOD! HE HEARS our every prayer and HIS ear is open to our cries! The question is - ARE WE PRAYING? HE is ready, willing and waiting to hear and answer us - so let's PRAY MORE!

The Promises of God:

"Through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father" (Ephesians 2:18).

"In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him" (Ephesians 3:12).

"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh" (Hebrews 10:19, 20).

ACCESS WITH BOLDNESS!!! Access to the throne of God would be good news in and of itself - but as usual God goes BEYOND .... access with boldness! The Israelites could only enter the OUTER COURT - while ONE man had "access with fear and trembling"!!! Are you getting this? WE ALL have open - clear way - access - into the presence of the LIVING GOD as beloved sons and daughters who know they are LOVED!

Hallelujah! NO prejudice as far as God is concerned! We are all on a level plain! Sinners - saved by HIS grace - redeemed by His blood - sons and daughters through His covenant - and HEIRS according to the promise! Hallelujah! Walk in the knowledge of WHO you are in HIM!!!

The Promises of God:

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. Beloved, now are we the sons of God" (1John 3:1, 2).

Notice the NOW! We are not waiting for some future time in heaven to become the "sons/daughters of God" TODAY right NOW we are HIS beloved CHILDREN with ALL that includes and bestows to us! Those who do not know God may tremble and fear before HIM - but we can run into HIS arms - jump on HIS lap - and share our heart with HIM because HE LOVES US - we are HIS children! What LOVE!

"As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father" (Romans 8:14, 15).

WE belong to the family of God - the wealthiest family in the universe - ! Abba, Father = Daddy in our language! - AND HE is a good FATHER! Not abusive - not absent - not addicted - but rather - LOVING - FORGIVING - PRESENT - longing for more intimate relationship with each one of us! Spend some time with Father today!

The Promises of God:

"The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1John 1:7, 9).

Yesterday we focused on the forgiveness available to us. Today let's focus on "if we confess". It's so much easier to just skip this part or is it? When we confess and forsake our sin we are not only forgiven but FREE! Don't let the enemy keep you bound - confess and forsake today! Repentance is a doorway to blessing!

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

"The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1John 1:7, 9).

We have a remedy! We've been looking at promises that tell us we are forgiven - our sins are forgotten - have you been tempted to say - "but you don't how I HAVE sinned!?" - read this verse again - noticing it says ALL sin! We assign certain sins as worse or harder to forgive - but notice GOD DOES NOT do that! :-) Let's line ourselves with God's thoughts!

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

"I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more" (Jeremiah 31:34)

A story is told of a woman who came to the Lord repentant saying "Lord, please forgive me, I did it again" Jesus replied, "Did what again.?"

Just that completely our sin is forgotten as far as GOD is concerned once it is forgiven! Satan is the accuser and condemner! Are you getting this thought!? Let it sink in so well that you will never be fooled again by satan's tactics to hold repented of confessed of sin over your head!

The Promises of God:

"He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm 103:9-12).

What old sin is the devil throwing up in your face repeatedly trying to hold guilt and condemnation over your heart and life? Read the verse again - "as far as the east is from the west" - that is not even a "measurable" distance!!! Get the idea? God is saying our sins are GONE!!! There is no measurement we could take to go find them again as far as HE is concerned. HIS MERCY reaches us today - If you need to: FORGIVE YOURSELF because GOD already has! :-)

Hallelujah! What A Savior!

"Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies" (Psalm 60:12).

VALIANTLY! I like that word! It sounds VALIANT! :-) In the allegory Pilgrim's Progress - Part II There is a man named "Valiant for Truth" who goes along with the company of pilgrims headed for the Celestial City. He is one of their guides and helps to fight battles and ward off enemies. We all could use someone like that walking alongside of us! GOOD NEWS! We have someone! JESUS CHRIST! -- THE VALIANT ONE! If you're feeling like you're alone in your struggles today - take heart - Jesus walks right along side you and is able to tread down your enemies in a VALIANT way! Hallelujah!

"God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He that believeth on him is not condemned. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life" (John 3:16, 18, 36; 6:47).

Here we are contemplating the BEST promise of all - SALVATION through faith in HIM! Have you stopped lately to think how it must have broken GOD the Father's heart to see His "only beloved Son" mistreated like a common criminal? !!!!! - That it broke HIS heart to be separated from His Son as well? Parents, you can get that! Oh may we LOVE HIM more - like Mary P O U R our love out at HIS feet as we worship such a wonderful Lord and Savior!

 The Promises of God:

"He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness" (Psalm 107:9).

Here again we see that it is our longing, our hunger and thirst that gets satisfied. We have so much that we seldom experience real hunger and thirst or real longing for anything. It is a constant effort to keep ourselves reminded that only as we HUNGER and THIRST for righteousness will we be filled! Let's ask HIM for an increase in our desire today - no need to worry about calories in this category!

"Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24).

Justified = "just as if I never sinned" - WOW - through HIS redemption HE has wiped our slate clean! Let it penetrate your whole spirit, soul and body - today - we live in a world that quickly moves from one thing to another without lingering over anything anymore - The gospels linger over the last weeks of Jesus life. May we linger over His love for us!

Here God promises to hear the prayer of the destitute and needy - in this world the needy and destitute are usually not the ones who those in high places listen to - it is those with power and money! Thank God HE is not a politician! His ear is open to our cry - any time - day or night! Hallelujah what a Savior! We have access with boldness! Let's come boldly to His throne and find the grace to help in our time of need.

The Promises of God:

"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven" (Matthew 5:11, 12).

And here's a promise we'd rather skip over! :-) Even in the middle of that "strife of tongues" we were talking about yesterday we are told to REJOICE - of course, they are two very different type of strife. Yesterday's "strife of tongues" was just in our daily relationships with one another - today it speaks of being persecuted falsely for JESUS sake - We must learn the difference - when we are in contentious situations that are not about the "GOSPEL" - we are promised a refuge a hiding place - but when we are in contentious situations FOR the Gospel's sake we must stand our ground and REJOICE! Notice where the reward is for standing! IN HEAVEN!!! We're here on earth for a short span of time but we will live in HEAVEN with JESUS FOREVER!!! Don't lose your perspective!

The Promises of God:

"Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues" (Psalm 31:20).

Protection is promised here from the "strife of tongues" - Some people like a good fight - but most of us would rather not be constantly exposed to the tumult that goes with the "strife of tongues" - James tells us that although the tongue is a little member of our body it can set the whole course of nature on fire! To know that we have a secret hiding place even from the "strife of tongues" is surely a comfort! It is however, our choice - we must choose to abide in the "secret place" - Our God makes a provision for every need! Hallelujah! What a Savior!

The Promises of God:

"He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday" (Psalm 37:6)

Although it may not happen as quickly as we would like it to - here we ARE promised that God will bring forth our righteousness! Even if we have to wait until we stand before His throne for that to happen - we will not be sorry that we stuck to right paths and continued in righteous paths! After all, our own righteous is "filthy rags" - we are clothed with HIS righteousness and keep in right standing with God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Hallelujah! Don't fret because of evil doers who look like they are prospering - God is a righteous judge!

We are promised here that we will be "far from oppression" and "terror" - what a promise! There are many ways that fear and oppression try to overcome and overtake us - but again - we are not left without a resource! "It shall not come near thee" - As always we must choose! Choose the "peace that passes understanding" that comes only from HIM!

The Lord is my HELPER! Sure beats "hamburger helper"!! :-) (sorry) AND He is on OUR SIDE!!! Hallelujah! Another name for the Holy Spirit is "HELPER" - We are not left helpless - The devil tries so hard to make us feel helpless - ineffective - without resource - but he is a LIAR!!! We have the God of the universe on our SIDE! Offering His great HELP daily! TODAY! Accept His help for you today! Sometimes we would rather give help than receive it! Let's LEARN to be good receivers!

The Promises of God:

"Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily" (Luke 18:7, 8).

This promise is given to us to encourage us to PRAY! Jesus told the story of a woman who needed the local Judge to plead her case - but she was poor and there was nothing in it for him. Yet, because of her persistence - he took her case. Jesus says: HOW MUCH MORE - will our Father in heaven - (who is not UNJUST) hear and answer our prayers! However, in order to receive answers we must be PRAYING! This verse also tells us we may have to wait at times for the answers but not to GIVE UP!!! Let's commit ourselves to PRAY MORE!

This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD" (Isaiah 54:15, 17).

No weapon! Are you under attack? Do you feel like every weapon that exists has been hurled at you? Claim this promise! NO WEAPON formed against you will prosper or succeed! THIS is our HERITAGE!!!! Satan is a defeated foe - he knows his time is short! We should not be surprised by his attacks - claim this promise and resist the devil and he will flee from you!!!! Remember the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds! Let's get on the offensive! We are MORE than conquerors through HIM who loves us!

Have any enemies? :-) This verse tells us when our ways please the Lord He creates peace around us! Another verse tells us "Great peace have they that love thy law and nothing shall offend them!" Peace is one of God's provisions to us - Psalm 23 says: "thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies." .... What's the point? In the MIDST of controversy and opposition and turmoil we can still have PEACE because we have the PRINCE OF PEACE within our hearts!

"In the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD" (Psalm 27:5, 6).

What a lovely picture we have here of a HIDING PLACE! Don't you find yourself longing for such a place? Well, once again our God is way out ahead of us with the provision securely in place! The choice is ours where we decided to run in that time of trouble! Oh may we have the wisdom and grace to run to HIM FIRST! HE will hide us and then HE will lift us up.
