1 Corinthians 13New King James Version (NKJV)

The Greatest Gift

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Such a familiar passage! So easy to read! So difficult to actually LIVE! May Jesus help us today to love others better! 

October is claimed by lots of organizations, one of them being Domestic Violence Awareness. Just a little reminder that Abuse is not love / Love is not abuse!

1Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

That sounds like a full to overflowing cup to me! Do you realize how much it means to HIM when we BELIEVE in HIM even though we have not seen HIM with our natural eyes? I think we could reverently say it "tickles" HIS heart. The result being our own hearts overflow with rejoicing, joy unspeakable and full of glory when we see how he answers and meets our BELIEVING in HIM - I don't think there any better words to describe it. So KEEP ON BELIEVING - we serve an awesome and GREAT God!

Colossians 2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

WOW! Ever feel at a loss for wisdom and knowledge - look at this! You do not even need to head off for the library! IN HIM - ...all the treasure of wisdom and knowledge! That's way beyond my understanding! James tells us "if any of you lack wisdom, let him ASK of God, who gives to all [wisdom] to all men LIBERALLY!!!" So ask away - HE doesn't expect us to have it or know it all! :-) HE has it and HE provides it - FREE - no library card needed - no penalties or late fees! AND He doesn't get annoyed at our asking for it! He delights in it!

Ephesians 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

BOLDNESS and ACCESS with CONFIDENCE!??? WHOA!!!! IS that your approach to God when you pray? Notice the verse says "WE HAVE" - Transfer this thought for a moment to an earthly ruler - do you have access with boldness to them??? Usually it takes lots of red tape and an awfully good cause to make access even a remote possibility - or being a family member. GOOD NEWS! - We are in God's family and as HIS children HE expects us to come to HIM with BOLDNESS and CONFIDENCE! If your children came crawling to you begging for what they wanted and needed, you would not be pleased by that kind of behavior - neither is GOD! Let this thought change your approach to HIM forever!

As they say in the armed forces: RHIP [rank has its privilege] and you rank HIGH with God!

Wow! Built to be the "living place" of our God!? Are you getting that? We know that thought in our heads or on paper but are we living consciously aware that CHRIST LIVES WITHIN ME!?

Words from an old hymn:

"Christ liveth in me! Christ liveth in me!
 Oh What a salvation this, that Christ liveth in me!"

Say it out loud today and every day! How it will change the mundane stuff into new and LIVING opportunities for the LIVING God to live THROUGH US! It will help us look at each other differently too!

Ephesians 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

WE are part of God's holy temple! WE each have an important place to fill in HIS temple! Remember playing with building blocks when you were a child? If the bottom ones got knocked out the whole pile toppled! Did you ever think of yourself in that kind of relationship to the rest of the "body of Christ"? If you're out of place the rest of the temple just can't stand! Sure adds some importance to our daily faithfulness to HIM and our relationship to one another! That's why it's ridiculous to go through life wishing we were like someone else, etc. we have a place to fill in HIS temple that NO ONE ELSE CAN FILL! You have a divine appointment to fill YOUR place - don't miss it!

In our world something is only sealed officially when it is a legal document which increases its genuineness - carry that thought into the verse above - WE are OFFICIALLY sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise! Have YOU received the Holy Spirit since you believed! Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door [into a Spirit filled life] WILL be opened to you! It stamps you as the "GENUINE ARTICLE"!

There's something about STABILITY that is attractive to us, even when we are not STABLE! Ever try to root a plant from an off shoot? It takes some nurturing. This verse tells us to tend to our roots - Bible Study - discipline - learning - and while we're doing it ABOUND WITH THANKSGIVING!

2 Corinthians 1:20

For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

IN HIM all the promise are guaranteed to us! It does not say HE will behave like a "Santa Claus" dumping stuff on us at our demand - but rather that HIS WORD IS TRUE - Let God be true and every man a liar - now I know the enemy tries to twist this one up on us - but next time you are tempted to think God did not keep HIS promise - remember this: Sometimes the test is just to stand and think GOD IS TRUE! "Who against hope believed in hope" That's how our faith grows! Let us join those "who through faith AND patience, inherit the promises!" Don't be cheated just because you're in a hurry!

Another verse tells us "I am come that you might have LIFE and have it more ABUNDANTLY!" Are you living an abundant LIFE!? IN HIM IS LIFE! Your abundant LIFE has been paid for in full - If you find your life is all but abundant - bring yourself to HIM and ask HIM to move into your heart in such a way that you will be able to LIVE that ABUNDANT LIFE He came to GIVE!! Don't stop asking until you're there!
