The Promises of God:

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" (Matthew 7:7, 8, 11).

Another place it says "we have not because we do not ask" - Sometimes we think God should just read our mind and zap out whatever it is we want - Here we are promised direct giving in response to our asking - open doors in response to our knocking - finding in direct response to our seeking. Jesus used this promise in connection with the Holy Spirit - so if you feel like you've got the short end of the stick today - ASK - SEEK - KNOCK - HE WILL ANSWER!
